Shakespeare Authorship - Questionnaire
1. He had an absolutely cast-iron reason for writing the plays and the poems behind
a 'front'.

2. His continued anonymity would have been necessary even after his death.

3. He was known to be an excellent poet apparently already employed by Lord
Burghley when the first seventeen sonnets
––thought by many to have been
commissioned by Burghley
––were written.

4. His later works are
stylometrically indistinguishable from the contemporary
Shakespeare histories and tragedies.

5. There was a precise period clearly requiring his handover to Shakespeare, which
exactly corresponds with Shakespeare’s first appearance in the literary world.

6. He is directly referred to in a Shakespeare play, echoed in all of them, and
directly quoted in several.

7. His love of Ovid was well-known, and he had even published his own
translations of Ovid, the writer Shakespeare's favourite poet.

8. He was reported to have suffered the apparent death by 'a wretch's knife', and
would have literally suffered the 'outcast state' and the 'branded name', that are
described in the Sonnets.

9. His lyric poetry is as good as Shakespeare's, and written in a style claimed by
many scholars to have been the model for Shakespeare’s.

10. He not only wrote blank verse of 'Shakespearian' quality, but he created the
original model of how to do it.

11. He was
––as Shakespeare would become––the greatest playwright of his day.

12. He has been called the 'master' to Shakespeare's 'apprentice', whom the writer
Shakespeare appearedto imitate throughout his career.
